Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) intends to negotiate a sole
source contract with Storage Technology Corporation (STC) of Silver
Spring, MD 20904, for the maintenance of STC 4400 Automatic Cartridge
Systems (STK 4400 ACS) and related hardware and software. The list of
items to be maintained includes: 4410-001 Library Storage Module,
4411-001 Library Control Unit, 9310-00C Library Storage Module,
9311-001 Library Control Unit, 4480-M20 and 4490-M30 Control Units,
4480-M22, M24 and 4490-M34 Cartridge Drives, 9490-M34 and SD-3-H34
Controller Transport Units, 1189-L10 Library Station for MVS, and
1189-T20 Library Control Feature. To acquire these items it is
anticipated that an ID/IQ contract with a base period and options
totalling approximately 24 months will be awarded. Maintenance
requirements include preventive, on-call, and per-call maintenance.
On-call and per-call maintenance must be provided 24 hours per day,
seven days per week including Federal Holidays and the response time is
two hours. The equipment is located at EPA sites in Research Triangle
Park, NC; Bay City, MI; Cincinnati, OH; Washington, DC; and Corvallis,
OR. EPA is unaware of any vendor(s) possessing Storage Technology
Corporation's proprietary microcode thereby allowing maintenance of the
aforementioned hardware and software. Therefore, EPA intends to
immediately negotiate a sole source contract with STC. The intent of
this synopsis is to determine if any other source(s) exist and,
therefore, no RFP is available. Any vendor wishing to respond to this
synopsis must do so in writing. The response must provide documentation
showing their firms capability to maintain the above items (e.g.,
maintenance agreement between your firm and STC). In addition, your
response should contain current pricing information such as a
commercial price list. Any response(s) failing to provide the
aforementioned data but instead choosing to merely submit their routine
letter requesting a copy of the RFP will be ignored. Responses must be
received within forty five days from publication of this announcement.

Washington, D.C. 20460. Vendors' response shall be in writing and
