The project consists of furnishing all labor, materials, and equipment necessary to remove two existing 50 hp and 100 hp air compressors and replace them with two 75 hp and one 200 hp air compressors. A new oil removal unit is to be added to the system. Only one air compressor is to be out of service at a time, with the replacement compressor working and ''on-line'' before the next compressor is taken off-line. The sequence will be replacement of the two 50 hp units followed by the 100 hp compressor. The contract performance period of 160 days includes a period where the contractor will not be permitted to work. During the 145-day period from November 18, 1995, through January 7, 1996, the contractor will not be permitted to take any compressor out of service, and in addition, all of his tools, materials, and equipment must be completely out of the way so as not to interfere with mail handling or maintenance operations. At the contractor's option he may provide a rental air compressor, of at least 600 CFM, so that he may more efficiently replace the existing compressors. All the rental costs, hook up, and operating costs of the rental unit are the contractor's. The estimated cost range is between $195,000 and $240,000.
