(BOM) has a requirement to purchase a research grade digital variable
pressure (low vacuum) scanning electron microscope (SEM) with an
integrated energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDS) and image
analysis system. The equipment will be used to characterize minerals,
materials and biological samples for all research performed at the BOM
Research Center. It must have maximum flexibility for supporting a
wide range of research projects such as mineral beneficiation,
liberation studies, mineral and materials characterizations and
biotechnical and environmental research. It must shall have the
capabilities to resolve smaller particles and examine samples that are
wet or saturated with chemicals from processing techniques. It must
provide a high resolution and have the ability to observe uncoated
