(703)305-9206 The USPTO faces an increasing need to search the computer
software prior art and seeks information about computer software prior
art data sources, search processes, and search tools that will assist
the PTO. (A). PTO seeks detailed information on techniques for
finding, accessing, and searching references in the computer software
literature generally considered appropriate for citation from archival
literature or from the documented or archival software itself.
Submissions may include techniques for organizing, managing, and
presenting the information for increased search productivity. (B).
Submissions may include any additional supporting matter to explain
effectively the submission. (C). Written submissions may include, but
are not limited to: (1) Document and text searching (including Patents
or Patent related information) using keywords, text strings,
citations, classification schemes etc.; and (2). Image searching using
classification schemes, document management techniques, or structured
data stores; and (3). Graphical User Interfaces offering a high degree
of integration of (i) text, image, and other search tools; and (ii)
commercially available off-the-shelf software supporting word
processing and other office automation applications; and (iii)
commercially available searchable data bases; and (iv) end user
customization of the search window/query; and (v) electronic mail. (4)
Software submissions must be compatible with existing USPTO internal
standards for client/servers: i.e., Intel Pentium-like based PCs using
Windows or SCO Unix operating systems, and Novell Netware networking
systems. All submissions will become public information unless
exceptions are specifically requested by the submitter and if such
requests are permitted within existing rules and regulations. Existing
or future products may be submitted by the product owner but must be
clearly identified and submitted in a manner that permits mutual
understanding of the conditions of acceptance prior to placing any
obligation on the PTO. If possible, responses should not include
proprietary or confidential business information. If proprietary
information is included in a response, it must be appropriately marked.
No cost or pricing data is required and none should be provided. This
is not a request for proposal nor does the Government intend to pay for
the solicited information. The Government does not intend to award a
contract as a result of this synopsis. For questions, call John Berg at
