COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF AUGUST 1,1995 PSA#1400U.S.-JAPAN FS-X FIGHTER COOPERATIVE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM - TECHNOLOGY
EXCHANGE VISIT. The U.S. Government is planning to lead a U.S. industry
technology exchange visit to Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (MELCO)
facilities in Japan during the week of 4 December 1995 on the FS-X
Electronic Warfare Suite (IEWS). The FS-X fighter aircraft is a
cooperative development program based upon the Lockheed Martin Tactical
Aircraft Systems F-16 Block 40 aircraft. The FS-X is being developed
for use in the Japanese Air Self Defense Force (JASDF). Mitsubishi
Heavy Industries is the Japanese prime contractor. MELCO is JDA's prime
contractor for the IEWS which is supplied as government furnished
equipment. The purpose of this visit is to provide U.S. industry access
to IEWS-related LRU-level and subcomponent-level technologies (i.e.
those related to receivers, transmitters, jammers, antennas,
countermeasures, and chip technology) through visits to MELCO design
and production facilities, presentations by Japan Defense Agency and
MELCO personnel. Under the U.S.-Japan FS-X agreements, the U. S.
Government and U.S. industry will have access to Japanese FS-X
technologies developed under the FS-X program. Direct one-on-one
company-to-company meetings with MELCO personnel can be arranged. Prior
to visiting Japan, U.S. industry representatives are requested to
provide in advance technical questions to be addressed during the
visit. Visiting attendees will also be required to prepare submissions
for a post-trip technical report. Parties interested in participating
in this technology exchange visit should contact Mr. Robert Dunn, U.S.
Department of Commerce, by fax 202-482-5650 or by phone 202-482-3984.
