SALE OF 1.5 MW AND 12 MW PLASMA ARC FURNACES Sol. EQUIP-105. POC: Cheryl A. Deister, Contracting Officer, (703) 607-3179. The Defense National Stockpile Center is offering for sale a surplus 1.5 MW and 12 MW DC open-arc plasma arc furnace. These plasma arc furnace systems were constructed and used exclusively for research in processing primarily ferrochromium under the auspices of a federal grant. The two furnace systems are housed in existing structures located on the site of Macalloy Corporation at 1800 Pittsburgh Avenue, North Charleston, SC. The primary components of the 1.5 MW plasma arc furnace were manufactured and installed between 1989 and 1990. Major components contained in the 1.5 MW system are: air compressor; alt bottom copper plate; annubar flowmeter; baghouse; blender or mixer; buckets; bus bar; cables; computer/instrumentation; control room; CO/CO2 monitors; damper actuators; dampers; digital controller; electrode mast; feed system; water cooled off-gas; furnace cooling fan; furnace; off-gas combustion system; off-gas system; power supply; ref brick/low hearth; scale; tap hole off-gas fan; temp & sample probes; thermocouples; MCC; and, support equipment. The primary components of the 12 MW plasma arc furnace were manufactured and installed between 1992 and 1993. Major components contained in the 12 MW system are: scrubber; dryers; fans; unit substation; 13.8 circuit breaker; cooling tower; air compressor; outdoor substation; overhead crane; furnace roof; feeders; double dump valves; 13.8 loaded switch power supply; air supply units; baghouse; screens; water offtake; 13.8 cable; flare stack; pumps; building fans; flex FCE cables; weigh system; DC bus; motor control center; effluent treatment; furnace shell; electrode hoist; electrode seal; electrode clamp; control panels; multipoint recorder; ladle car; cooling water pump; truck scale; dryer baghouse; dryer burner; steel tap stand; furnace refractory; and, pre-engineering buildings storage. Offers may be submitted under a resultant solicitation to purchase: (1) either furnace system; (2) both furnace systems; or (3) individual component pieces of either furnace system. Priority will be given to the sale of an entire furnace system. Successful offerors at their expense will be required to dismantle, package and transport equipment from existing location.
