95 -- LARGE STEEL COMPONENTS POC Contact Point, David Dale, (516)282-3199 Brookhaven National Laboratory intends to solicit for the RHIC Project, Star Magnet Support. These large steel component parts will form the main support for the Solenoidal Magnet System. This detector system is known as the Solenoidal Tracker at RHIC (STAR) and will be installed in the Relativitic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC(). The collider is a particle accelerator being constructed at Brookhaven National Laboratory. There are two main support weldment assemblies. Each assembly weighs approximately 50,000 pounds. The finished overall length is 258 inches in length by 78 inches high by 40 inches wide. The material used will be ASTM A36 structural steel plate. Along with each of the two main supports there will be accessory attachments also made from ASTM A36 material. The majority of the accessories are 88 support fixtures ranging in weight fromn 36 pounds to 106 pounds. All magnet support component parts shall be fabricated in accordance with the buyer drawings and standards. Only those firms that provide technical information showing their capability to fabricate these large magnet support components, including a valid Quality Assurance Program will be considered.
