COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF AUGUST 16,1995 PSA#1411National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Goddard Space Flight
Center, Wallops Flight Facility, Wallops Island, VA 23337 41 -- COOLING TOWER SOL 228-41199-0000/712 DUE 091195 POC Billie R.
Blackwell, (804) 824-1431/Contracting Officer, Darlene B. Floyd (804)
824-1410. Cooling Tower, factory assembled, forced draft counter flow
type fiberglass, shall have the capacity to cool 1400 gallons per
minute of circulating water from 95 degrees F entering temperature to
85 degrees F exit temperature at an ambient wet bulb temperature of 78
degrees F -- 1 each. Shall meet the following specifications: The
tower pump head shall not exceed twelve feet. The overall dimensions
shall not exceed twenty feet by twenty feet. Flanged connections shall
be provided for supply, return, and makeup water. Tower shall have an
automatic control valve for makeup water level control. Tower shall
have a removable stainless steel basin clean out screen between the
basin and the return flange. Fan Equipment: The tower shall utilize six
(6) direct drive fan assemblies and six (6) motors at three (3) horse
power each for a total of 18.0 horse power. The motors shall be 460
volts, 60 HZ, TEFC, 900 RPM, single speed, single winding. Maximum
total brake horsepower shall not exceed 20 horsepower. Towers that
utilize one or two fans per tower shall be required to provide a
variable speed drive. The variable speed drive shall be adjustable
frequency, pulse width modulated, with microprocessor controls. Fans
and motors shall be positioned out of the exhaust air stream. A canopy
or covering shall protect the fan equipment. The fan equipment
supports shall be constructed for fiberglass or T304 stainless steel.
A stainless steel or fiberglass guard shall be provided to prevent
persons or objects from entering the fan area. Fan motor controls and
starters shall be furnished by the government. Motors shall be factory
pre-wired to the manufacturer's supplied junction box. An additional
spare motor and fan shall be provided by the contractor. Fill Media:
Fill media shall be cross fluted film type, PVC material, impervious to
decay, fungus, and biological attack and conform to ASTM D-1784, Type
1 Grade 1, with flame spread rating of not more than 15 per ASTM E-84.
Fill sheets shall be self-spacing, supported on maximum spans of 7
inches. The fill shall be performance tested by the cooling tower
manufacturer to assure final overall cooling tower performance. Drift
Eliminators: Drift eliminators shall consist of a single row of
self-spacing, rigid PVC blades positioned so as to force three changes
in air direction. The drift eliminators shall be assembled in
removable sections to access internal components of the cooling tower.
The PVC shall conform to ASTM E-1784, Type 1, Grade 1, with flame
spread rating of not more than 15 per ASTM E-84. Drift losses shall not
exceed 0.005% of the circulating water flow rate. Structure: The towers
structure casing and cold water basin shall be constructed of a minimum
density of 30 ounces per square foot pultruded fiberglass of premium
isophthalic polyester resin and shall have a flame spread rating of
less than 25. The fiber reinforcement shall be unidirectional
continuous glass fiber, continues roving & mats, and even or non-woven
glass fabrics made from type C or type E glass. All pultruded members
shall include UV radiation inhibitors molded into the members during
pultrusion process. All connectors shall be nylon with 15% fiberglass
impregnated. All bolting hardware and metal parts shall be type T304
stainless steel. The tower structure shall be designed for 125 miles
per hour wind loading and a seismic loading of 4.0. Tower structure
shall include support legs, minimum of 24'' high. Unit and components
shall be covered by a standard commercial warranty. This synopsis is
being issued to solicit quotations from vendors desiring to furnish the
above described item to the Government at the address set forth below.
