482-3599 The National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) of
the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Department of
Commerce, is developing a strategy for the redesign of its most
important reserach and operational analysis/forecast model codes into
versions that execute efficiently on highly parallel computer systems.
The NCEP believes that these models have the potential to make
effective use of the very high computational performance projected by
the makers of scalable architecture supercomputers. The NCEP seeks
suggestions and comments from potential vendors of such computers
regarding redesign of these models to achieve high performance on a
wide variety of highly parallel computer systems. To this end, the NCEP
will provide codes to interested potential vendors to make them aware
of the nature of the important application and to solicit input on how
to modify the codes to achieve the objectives of performance and
portability. These codes may be the basis for future benchmarks for
procurements. Participating vendors are requested to provide written
review and comments including suggested code and/or design
modification. The NECP will respond to questions from recipients as
appropriate and as resources permit. The codes to be provided are
variants of existing atmospheric, finite-difference or spectral model
production codes that execute efficiently on the Cray C90 in a
multitasking mode. The codes are written in Cray Fortran (cf77),
including Fortran 90 array syntax. These codes are to be used
exclusively for the above mentioned purposes and are not intended for
scientific studies. The code shall not be further distributed by the
recipients. Interested vendors who wish to receive a copy of these
model codes will be required to sign an agreement regarding the allowed
use of the code and may be required to pay the Government a processing
fee. The Government will provide brief description and the Cray
Fortran codes, input data, samply output, together with the Cray Unicos
scripts that were used to execute the models on th eCray C90 system at
the NCEP. Interested sources should contact Mr. Michael Palensky on
(202) 482-3599. This synopsis is for information and planning purposes
only and does not constitute a solicitation for bids or proposals and
is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government. The
Government will not pay or reimburse recipients for any work that may
be carried out by them as a part of this effort. (0226) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0541 19950815\70-0018.SOL)
