Contract Specialist, Helen Adams, 801/831-2737. U.S. Army Dugway
Proving Ground, Utah requires technical, medical and analytical support
for a program investigating aerosol characteristics of patients with
tuberculosis. Dugway Proving Ground intends to enter into a year
contract with Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (JHU), using
other than full and open competition, to obtain and analyze
aerosolized patient isolates of drug and sensitive and drug resistant
Mycobacterium Tuberculosis. Collection of adquate number of patient
isolates will require a moderately high number of annual tuberculosis
case admissions and a staff comprehensively trained in aerosol
techniques and methodologies. Non disposable collection equipment will
be provided by Dugway Proving Ground. JHU will also provide design and
analytical supports to this phase of the project using expert staff
specifically trained in biometric and medical population studies.
Information generated from this study will be used to assist in
determining requirements for protection of health care workers and
other personnel at risk for infection by aerosolized pathogens.
