28 -- SHIPBOARD AND INSTALLATION AND CHECKOUT SPARES FOR THE MPU AND SSTG IN SUPPORT OF THE IPMP III SOL N00024-95-R-4030 POC (024E) A. Arreguin, Contracting Officer (703)602-8200. The Naval Sea System has a requirement for shipboard and installation and check-out spares for the Main Propulsion Unit (MPU) and the Ship Service Turbine Generator (SSTG) procured under contract N00024-95-C-4030 in support of Phase III of the Improved Performance Machinery Program (IPMP III). Contract N00024-95-C-4030 was awarded sole source to General Dynamics, Electric Boat Division (EB) due to EB's unique experience, having provided conceptional designs of the propulsion and electric plant components for the Nuclear Propulsion Plant design of the NAS under the Naval Reactors Program. Further, EB is uniquely qualified for the N00024-95-C-4030 effort due to their experience in the design and development of the MPU and SSTG to the SEAWOLF Class Submarine specifications which constitute the most salient performance characteristics required for the NAS MPU and SSTG. Therefore, the shipboard and installation and check-out spares required for the MPU and SSTG shall also be procured on a sole source basis from EB in support of contract N00024-95-C-4030.
