The land section of the operational research division of the Shape Technical Centre (STC) has the task of analyzing the operations of land forces to support the determination of future force requirements. As a part of this task, the land section needs to simulate the various types of operations with high-speed, high-fidelity computer models and subsequently to analyze the results. These operations include: High and low intensity combat operations. Pre-combat and post-engagement operations, operations in which the involvement of NATO forces in combat is constrained or undersirable, such as the peace support operations. To aid the timely and efficient creation of computer simulation tools for the above wide variety of operations, the following phased approach has been chosen: (Phase 1): Development of specifications for model framework and basic components. (Phase 2): Development of the basic components (simulation driver, combat and movement modules, preliminary interface capabilities) of the simulation model. (Phase 3): Refinement and expansion of model design and technical specifications to include all model characteristics as well as requirements for interactivity with other service models.
