Z -- US POSTAL SERVICE IS ISSUING A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS TO PREQUALIFIED CONTRACTORS FOR DESIGN/BUILD TO ENCLOSE LOADING DOCKS AND CONSTRUCT STORAGE AND BATTERY ROOMS AT LOUISVILLE KY P&DC SOL 415046-95-A-0646 due 090695. POC Project Manager, Otto Rangel, 215/931-5423, Purchasing Specialist, M. L. Glenn, 215/931-5486. The U. S. Postal Service, Facilities Service Office, Philadelphia, PA will issue Solicitation No. 415046-95-A-0646 on August 16, 1995 for the following projects: Design/Build to enclose east loading docks, construct two pre-engineered storage buildings and construct a battery room at the processing and Distribution Center, 1420 Gardiner Lane, Louisville, KY 40231-9998. The US Postal Service intends to award a fixed-price contract for completion of design documents and construction for work identified as follows: (1) Enclose approximately 285 lineal feet of the existing east loading deck with insulated metal siding and metal soffit. The perimeter siding walls will be protected with highway type guardrail. Twenty-four new 7' wide x 8' high insulated metal dock doors, with dock seals, curtainheads and 4'' concrete-filled pipe bollards, are to be installed. Three single metal doors with frames and hardware will be required. New concrete stairs and landing with metal handrail will be required. Demolition work includes the removal of existing ladder and concrete stairs, and the removal and relocation of guardrails and three edge-of-dock levelers. (2) Provide two wood frame, pre-engineered storage buildings, 80' x 128' each with an eave height of 13' and inside clearance height 12'3''. No insulation, HVAC and electrical installation is to be provided. The buildings are to be installed on existing asphalt paving. Two 10' x 10' overhead steel doors and four 3''0 x 6'8'' single service doors are to be installed in each building. (3) Build a new 28' x 50' battery room for charging and/or changing of batteries for mail handling mobile equipment. The battery room requires many special contractor furnished and installed features, including a bridge crane, sealed ceiling, acid resistant floor coating, battery and charger pads, emergency shower and eyewash, mop receptor and floor drain. The room must be designed with walls, doors, floors and ceilings sealed to ensure that gases and vapors are released only through the exhaust system. Construction will be completed within 150 calendar days of costruction awarded. The total construction cost is estimated between $500,000.00and $550,000.00. Only prequalified general contractors may submit an offer. The three prequalified firms are as follows: The Austin Company, 5109 Leesburgh Pike #201, Falls Church VA 22041-3208, James N. Gray Construction Inc., 250 W Main Street Ste 2500, Lexington, KY 40507-1760 and Turner Construction Company, 4601 N. Fairfax Avenue, Arlington VA 22203-1500. INTERESTED SUBCONTRACTORS MUST CONTACT THE ABOVE GENERAL CONTRACTORS. Solicitation instructions and conditions and other contract documents may be examined at the Facilities Service Office, U. S. Postal Service, One Independence Mall, 615 Chestnut Street, Suite 1400, Philadelphia, PA 19106-4404 and at the firm of Godsey Associates Architects, 201 West Market Street, Louisville, KY 40202-1333 (502-583-6111). Plans and specifications will be provided to the prequalified firms only. Subcontractors must contact the firms listed. Offers will not be publicly opened. The Postal Service reserves the right to reject any or all offers. Until award of the contract, the number of proposals received, the identity of the offerors, the amount of any offer or the relative standing of offers will not be disclosed.
