Commerce/NOAA/NESDIS intends to issue an RFP on a ''Specific Make and
Model'' basis for the purchase of the Alantec PowerHub and associated
hardware and installation for use as a centralized Fiber Distributed
Data Interface (FDDI) switch/router, for the Satellite Services
Division at the WorldWeather Building, Camp Springs, MD. The
centralized FDDI switch/router will facilitate the performance,
redundancy and reliability features associated with the current WWB and
Suitland campus network architecture. Associated hardware includes:
Alantec Model 7010)01, 10-slot chassis with 4-slot power (1); Alantec
Power Supply 7901-00 (Redundant Power) (4); Packet Engine 7101-00 (1);
Dual FDDL Module 7302-00 (6); PowerSight (1/4'' TAPE) 1800-01, with
installation and configuration (1); and PowerSight Maintenance 1800-SW.
Requirements include: serve as a FDDI and Ethernet switch and
concentrator; switching matrix or backplane bus able to handle at least
1.6 Gbps; ability to support up to 800,000 packets per second; provide
a minimum of 10 FDDI ports, expandable to 16; all ports configurable
to support Single Attach Station (SAS), Dual Attach Station (DAS) or
dual-homed (SAS) attachment to a FDDI ring or concentrator; support SMT
with SNMP translation; support bi-directional Ethernet/FDDI
translation; support both bridging and IP routing on all ports; SNMP
management support for all ports; support both single and multi-mode
fiber port connections (ST and MIC connectors, respectively); redundant
power supply system, with hot-shapable p/s modules and support for
power load sharing/balancing; hot-shapable FDDI/Ethernet port cards;
ANTI/A standards compliant; and provide seamless integration with
existing Alantec Model 5001 PowerHubs. In addition, on-site
installation and a one-year warranty are also required. Post award
acceptance tests shall be required. A single award, fixed-price
contract is anticipated. Any contractor who believes they can furnish
another item(s) which will satisfy these requirements is invited to
submit an affirmative response. To be considered an affirmative
response, an offeror must submit a written narrative statement of
capability, including data which demonstrates how their product will
perform identically to the requested item(s) and integrate seamlessly
with existing hardware, as noted above. The response must be sufficient
to permit agency analysis in order to determine a bona fide capability
to meet the requirements. Requests for the solicitation must be
submitted, in writing, to the above address. Telephonic responses shall

above will result in the Government proceeding on the ''Specific Make
