69 -- KINESTHETIC FORCE FEEBACK DEVICE (CHARLOTTE ROBOT) SOL 9BE3303549P DUE 091595 POC Contact:STEVE JANNEY, Tel:713-483-8505 Contracting Officer:LISA REA, Tel:713-483-8395 The kinesthetic force feedback device will be used in conjunction with the existing force feedback device currently in use in the Integrated EVA/RMS Virtual Reality Simulation Facility. The device will be integrated with the current device to provide the capability to accurately simulate the handling characteristics of a large mass being manipulated by two Extra Vehicular Activity (EVA) crewmembers in a zero-gravity situation. The kinesthetic force feedback device must meet the following requirements: (1) The device must be man-rated (2) The device must be able to simulate six degree-of-freedom mass charachteristics of large ()500lb) payloads (3) The drive mechanisms and electrical components must be interchangeable with the device currently in the use at the Johnson Space Center (4) One year of maintenance must be provided to include the delivered device and the current device at the Johnson Space Center. --(See #1 ''Description'') --The manufacturer of the Kinesthetic Force Feedback Device, also called the ''Charlotte'' robot, is McDonnel Douglas Aerospace, Inc, Houston, TX. --1 unit --The device will be delivered to the Johnson Space Center. --The device must be delivered no later than March 1996. --Numbered Note 22. The government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source.__This procurement is being conducted under MidRange test procedures approved by OFPP. --McDonnel Douglas is the only company that can meet all the minimum requirements of NASA. The design of the ''charlotte'' robot is proprietary to McDonnell Douglas. (0236)
