20816-5003 R -- CRADA CAPABILITY REQUEST FOR HYDROGRAPHIC DATA RECORDING SYSTEM
(HDRS) SOL DMA-CRADA-PCA-95-8002 POC Contracting Officer, Mary Ann
Klaner, PCA (301) 227-2235, FAX (301) 227-2218 The Defense Mapping
Agency (DMA) has developed a Hydrographic Data Recording System (HDRS).
The HRDS will enhance hydrographic data collection capabilities for
''ships of opportunity'' which transit data sparse areas. DMA is
leading this effort to develop a ''suitcase'' design, portable,
nonintrusive, carry-on package, consisting of HDRS suitcase, a standard
computer monitor, GPS receiver, and a mass storage device. It will
automatically record digital hydrographic data continuously from any
surface ship equipped with standard depth finding transducers. An
engineering model and documentation supporting construction of
operational systems will be completed this summer. HDRS systems will be
deployed first on Navy surface ships that transit data-poor areas. The
concept could be expanded to increase data collection in U.S.
controlled waters by placing suitcases on Coast Guard, NOAA or other
civil vessels. DMA is seeking companies with relevant technical
expertise to partner with under a CRADA (Cooperative Research and
Development Agreement). The goals of this CRADA are to assess the
commercial value of HDRS technology, identify and establish appropriate
commercial fathometer interfaces, develop HDRS maintenance concepts and
to establish a commercial source for operation units. Companies
interested in pursuing such CRADA's are requested to submit a letter
not to exceed five pages in length, by 02 October 1995, describing the
company's capabilities and what benefits both the company and DMA
might reasonably expect to derive from such an arrangement. This
information should be sent to Mr. Melvin Wagner, Defense Mapping
Agency, ATCC, 8613 Lee Highway, Mail Stop A-13, Fairfax, VA 22031-2137,

meassages are provided with attachments, provide attachments in
