COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 1,1995 PSA#1423Commander, Naval Sea Systems Command, Code SEA 0254, 2531 Jefferson
Davis Hwy, Arlington, Virginia 22242-5160 12 -- FIRE CONTROL EQUIPMENT SOL N00024-95-R-5446 POC (02542), J.
Murray, (703) 602-7900. The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) has a
requirement for the continuation of risk reduction engineering under
Contract N00024-94-C-5433 with Hughes Missile Systems Company of of
Tucson, Arizona. These efforts will support the design and development
of a Ship Self Defense System (SSDS) while a formal Engineering and
Manufacturing Development contract is being negotiated. SSDS is
intended to improve the quick reaction combat capability of certain
surface ships and is based on the integration and coordination of ship
sensors and engagement systems. The centralized control of these
subsystems is the the predominant engineering challenge of this system.
Hughes possesses the most current experience in control system
technology as design agent for the Navy's Advanced Combat Direction
System (ACDS). Hughes is also the design agent on a large portion of
the subsystems to be interfaced with under the SSDS, such as the R?i$D9
Airfram Missile and the PHALANX Close-In Weapon System. This additional
risk reduction effort will be solicited from Hughes and will include
one set of long-lead material to support the Self Defense Test Ship.
