EVELYN BUTLER, 303-236-8040, X232 The Bureau of Reclamation, Technical
Service Center has a requiement for two pumps; 7.5 hp, 3500 rpm motor;
5.125-inch impeller; 100 gal/min at 60 feet head; Tag with DDN:
hrp-16-RF1401 and HRP-16-RF1402; two pumps; 7.5 hp, 3500 rpm motor;
5.785-inch impeller; 100 gal/min at 100 feet head; Tag with DDN:
HRP-16-RF1701 and HRP-16-RF1702; four pumps, 3-hp, 1750 rpm motor,
7.785-inch impeller, 50 gal/min at 50 feet head, Tag with DDN::
HRP-16-RF3701 and HRP-16- RF3702. Centrifugal pumps shall have TEFC
motors. Pumps and baseplates are to meet ANSI B73.1M 1991
specifications. Pumps shall be back pull out design, to where casing
can be left in place when pump is removed for service. Impeller should
direct flow of pumped product to the rear of impeller. Wear part of
pump will be behind impeller (rear cover plate surface), not inner
surface of casing (volute). Wear surface must be flat and easily
remachineable to reestablish pump hydraulics. Open Impeller shall be
specified only when pumped product contains grindable or digestible
materials which may tend to clog a reverse vane type impeller.
Self-Priming pumps shall also have reverse vane impeller design, so
that wear part is behind impeller and is easily remachinable to
reestablish pump hydraulics. Pump casing (volute) not to be primary
wear part. Foot valves shall not be used on suction lines. Air bleed
line shall be used between pump discharge and check valve to vent air
during priming cycle. Impeller shall be threaded to shaft. Threads must
not be exposed to pumped product. Shaft to impeller fit must be metal
to metal and gasketed. Impeller shall not be attached to shaft using
keys, nuts or pins. Impeller must be designed to pass spheres without
clogging. Maximum sphere size capability of a manufacture's impeller
must be provided on data sheet. Impeller critical clearance should be
set between back of impeller and rear cover in order to minimize
stuffing box pressure. Seal chamber (stuffing box) designs for use with
mechanical seals shall be oversize to prolong seal life. Single seals
shall be specified without bypass flush lines. Oversize straight, or
tapered bore seal chambers shall be provided to give needed cooling and
flushing for the mechancal seal. Cast in flow modifiers should be
utilized in bore of seal chambers to reduce internal velocities and
resultant erosion in abrasive applications. Impeller/shaft setting must
be externally adjustable by means of a micrometer type threaded thrust
bearing holder. Adjustment must be facilitated without the use of
measuring devices such as feeler gauges or dial indicators.Shafts shall
be solid ''non sleeve type'' for pumps using non-fretting mechanical
type seals, minimizing shaft deflection at the seal face, therefore
increasing seal life. Packed pumps to use replaceable shaft sleeves.
Shaft diameter on overhung portion from inboard bearing to impeller,
shall be as large as practical and overhung length to be as short as
practical, in order to minimize shaft deflection. Pump manufacturer to
show on data sheet overhung shaft diameter and diameter under sleeve
if sleeve is used. Manufacturer also to show length of shaft overhang
from center of inboard bearing to center of impeller waterway. 2
Bearing life must meet minimum B10 standard of 17,500 hours of
continuous duty. Largest available bearings supporting the shaft should
be chosen so as to exceed B10 standard. Bearing size must be provided
on data sheet by pump manufacturer including inside diameter of each
bearing. Bearing housing to be sealed by double lip oil seals or
labyrinth type seals. Pump shall have capability of using optional c-
flange adapter with precise parallel adjustment capability built in to
the C-flange adapter. Parallel alignment must be adjustable to .002 or
less. Three point motor jack bolts for precise alignment of motor to
pump is preferred. Non adjustable C-face machine tolerance aligned
designs are not acceptable. Delivery is required no later than November
