The Department of the Treasury, Departmental Offices intends to issue a delivery order against an existing Library of Congress, Fedlink Basic Ordering Agreement, to renew gateway service with Desktop Data, Inc. for NewsEDGE on a sole source basis. The required gateway services capture and combine different news wire services delivered by X.25 telephone lines, FM broadcast or satellite transmission. It alerts users to important incoming stories that match multiple interest profiles created by the user; organizes the news on the user's PC for easy viewing and searching; and operates in the background on stand alone or LAN based PCs constantly delivering news to the user without tying up the user's PC. NewsEDGE works on stand alone PCs, PCs connected to a LAN, and over various electronic mail systems. Service will be continued through 9/30/96. Service is to be provided at the Department of the Treasury, 1500 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, WAshington, DC 20220. This synopsis is a notice of intent and should not be considered a Request for Quotations. No solicitation document exists. WRITTEN RESPONSES SHOULD INCLUDE PRICES AND TECHNICAL DATA SUFFICIENT TO DETERMINE CAPABILITY. A determination by the Government not to open the requirement to competition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
