COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 5,1995 PSA#1424USDA, ARS, Pacific West Area, Procurement Office, 800 Buchanan Street,
Albany, California 94710 70 -- 25-NODE, NOVELL NETWARE 4.1 NETWORK Contact Ken Eason,
510/559-6018, Contract Specialist. The USDA, Agricultural Research
Service in Albany, California, has a requirement for the implementation
of a 25-node, Novell Netware 4.1 network, for the research
Administration Group. Workstations (PCs and Macs) currently have direct
connections to a thick ethernet segment which in turn connects to the
Internet. We will also require connection of the proposed new network
to an existing 50-node, Novell Netware 4.01 network, used by the Area
Administration Group. The workstations on this network share a Gateway
2000 server using 10BaseT topology and a SynOptics 3000 hub. The Area
Admin workstations are connected to a WAN through an EICON pc-based
router. We will want to configure the network to allow the Area
administration users to access the Internet and allow the Research
Administration users to access the WAN. We also want to make sure the
network is segmented so that each LAN's performance is not adversely
affected by traffic from the other LAN. The installation of a back-end
communications server will be required which utilizes a series of
existing modems, tied to a Xylogics Micro-Annex XL comm server and to
a dial-in port on the Area Administrative Lan. This back-end
communications server should enable 10 simultaneous Windows sessions to
run and should be optimized to handle Windows applications.
Additionally, Novell LAN WorkPlace is needed for connectivity to the
Internet and UNIX server, operating on the Research Lab local area
network, as well as installation of Novell LAN WorkGroup on the Area
Admin Lan. We will required Novel Perfect Office - Professional Edition
as the standard software package for the Research Admin Lan. We are
looking for a recommended turnkey solution including an extensive
service contract, hardware, software, installation and training. Due to
the complexity of this job, the requirement for advanced Netware skills
and UNIX knowledge and expertise, we are requiring all bidders to hold
a Novell Platinum Reseller designation. RFQ-31-91H2-95 is now
available. All quotes must be received by September 25, 1995.
Interested firms are encouraged to fax their requests to Ken Eason at
