COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 5,1995 PSA#1424U. S. Department of Energy, Oak Ridge Operations Office, Procurement
and Contracts Division, P. O. 2001, Oak Ridge, Tennessee 37830-8602 A -- LARGE-SCALE DEMONSTRATION FOR TREATMENT OF PRIMARILY
TRICHLOROETHENE CONTAMINATION IN LOW PERMEABILITY SOILS (PACKED CLAY)
AT THE PADUCAH GASEOUS DIFFUSION PLANT POC Contact Point, Maurice Davis
615 576-7599, Contract Specialist; Nancy Frolio 615 576-4094,
Technology Development The Department of Energy anticipates awarding a
follow-on sole source contract with the Monsanto Company for
large-scale demonstration of the Lasagna technology with an option to
extend the scope to entire site which is approximately one-half acre.
The Lasagna technology has been developed and tested to treat
trichloroethene (TCE) contamination in low permeability soils (packed
clay) at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant. The Lasagna technology,
a Monsanto patented process, incorporates both innovative and standard
technologies into a system that has been demonstrated to be effective
in removingTCE from low permeability soils at a cost significantly
less than baseline technologies. Treatment zones are emplaced in the
subsurface and electro-osmosisis used to move contaminants into these
zones. This sole source is focused on completing development and
conducting large scale demonstration of the Lasagna technology to
assess the scale-up factors, to evaluate the ability to destroy
thecontaminant in the treatment zones and to assess the cost on a
large-scale to ensure it is still cost effective when compared to the
baseline. Based on a successful large scale demonstration, an option
will be available to deploy the technology for treating the remainder
of the one-half acre site. See Numbered Note 22. (0243) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0005 19950901\A-0005.SOL)
