CBD dated 8/15/95. The descriptive should have read as follows:
Construction shall provide Special Operations Forces (SOF) protection
from extreme environmental conditions while operating in harsh
mountain, arctic, and desert environments. The Lightweight Extreme
Weather Shelter (LEWS) shall consist of a three-man dome-shaped shelter
constructed of state-of-the-art lightweight, rip-stop, fire-resistant
material. It shall come with three separate rainflies of varied solid
colors (brown, white, green). Both the tent and rainfly shall be low
profile. Additional camouflage protection shall be provided by
individual camouflage covering (ICC) carried by SOF soldiers. The LEWS
is a three-man tent which is ''backpackable'' by one man. The required
weight shall not exceed twelve pounds. The desired weight not to exceed
nine pounds. The LEWS shall consist of the basic tent, tent poles, and
a fly for each operational scenario. Each fly shall have an integral
vestibule to provide additional space. Dimensions: 7'6'' long x 9'0''
wide x 4'0'' high. Vestibule area: 10 square feet in the front, 5
square feet in the rear. Qty 42 each. All other information published
