Y -- POWER AND COMMUNICATION SYSTEM UPGRADE SOL IFB523-8-95 DUE 110895 POC Contracting Officer, George D. Dick, 617/495-7401, FAX 617/496-7692 The project consists of constructing an upgrade to the power and communications infrastructure at the summit of Mauna Kea, Hawaii. The construction will take place at a 4200 meter elevation, 72 Km from the city of Hilo, Hawaii. The work will consist of approximately 940 meters of trenching, involving a total of 1200 cubic meters of material. The contractor will install into these trenches approximately 2650 meters of 4 inch diameter, SCH 40 PVC ducting and approximately 2000 meters of 5 inch diameter, SCH 40 PVC ducting. The 5 inch ducting will be encased with approximately 200 cubic meters of concrete. The work will also include the installation of several large handholes and include two or three crossings of a paved road, requiring about 15 sq. meters of asphalt removal and replacement. The installation of the power and communications cabling is not a part of this contract.
