99 -- CHEMICAL PROTECTIVE HOODS SOL DAAM01-95-R-0104 DUE 092795 POC Contract Specialist Jerry Winters (410) 671-4492 Contracting Officer Linda Carsey (410) 671-4537 (Site Code DAAM01) The U.S. Army Edgewood Research, Development and Engineering Center seeks commercial sources for production of a chemical protective hood. This hood constitutes part of a full protective ensemble which will be worn by emergency responders in the event of an accidental release of toxic chemical agents. This hood will cover and protect the wearer's head and shoulders. Key system performance requirements and critical characteristics include the following: 1) The hood will be made of butyl rubber coated nylon cloth. 2) The butyl rubber coated cloth will have a minimum weight of 6.8 ounces and a maximum of 8.0 ounces per square yard. 3) The hood must interface with the following four commercial powered airpurifying respirators (PAPRs): Mine Safety Appliances, Inc., Part No. 494236; Racal Health & Safety, Inc., Part No. 520-01-98; Survivair, Inc., Part No. 5400-00; and Cabot Safety Products, Part No. RP51A. 4) The hood must be able to be secured to the eye lenses and air hoses of all four specified PAPRs. 5) Fabric seams will be stitched and sealed using heat activated/bonded adhesive and tape reinforcements which meet requirements for a life support system. 6) The hood must meet toxic chemical agent impermeability requirements. The contractor must have the capability to delivery 400 units per month after approval of first article testing. There is no current commitment on the part of the U.S. Army to award a contract as a result of this request for information nor to pay for the information received.
