Officer, 202-927-0423. The U.S. Customs Service intends to issue a
competitive solicitation (Request for Proposals CS-96-007) for the
acquisition of an IBM-compatible mainframe computer for use at its data
center in Springfield, Virginia (For the purposes of this acquisition,
Customs defines a mainframe computer as a system that contains a
minimum of four processors). The requirement for processing speed is 80
to 100 million instructions per second (MIPS) per processor. All
equipment shall be IBM plug and code compatible and connectivity shall
be ESCON and parallel capable. The Standard Industrial Classification
(SIC) Code for this requirement is 3571. Interested firms shall submit
their written requests for the solicitation to Mr. Terence Lew, U.S.
Customs Service, 1301 Constitution Avenue, N.W., Room 4210, Washington,
D.C. 20229 within thirty calendar days of the publication of this
notice. Only written responses to this notice will be honored. No
telephone requests will be accepted. All submissions must indicate
whether the interested firm is a small business, a small disadvantaged
