The U.S. Customs Service intends to issue a competitive solicitation (Request for Proposals CS-96-007) for the acquisition of an IBM-compatible mainframe computer for use at its data center in Springfield, Virginia (For the purposes of this acquisition, Customs defines a mainframe computer as a system that contains a minimum of four processors). The requirement for processing speed is 80 to 100 million instructions per second (MIPS) per processor. All equipment shall be IBM plug and code compatible and connectivity shall be ESCON and parallel capable. The Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Code for this requirement is 3571.
