N00019-94-G-0291 POC Contact, MARINA ATCHISON, Phone (703)604-6100 The
Naval Air Systems Command intends to place an order under Basic
Ordering Agreement N00019-94-G-0291 for engineering effort required for
the F/A-18 Conformal Antenna System Phase I Program. This effort will
include defining system and architecture requirements of the conformal
antenna, defining antenna outline and installation requirements to
ensure compatibility, ensuring the APX-111 is interoperable with the
conformal antenna, developing and documenting a maintenance approach
for the conformal antenna, initiating an Integrated Product Development
(IPD) competition between antenna vendors, performing analyses and
testing for each antenna vendor, fabricating a nose barrel mockup for
evaluation of the conformal antenna installation and maintainability
features, culminating in design and fabrication of long lead items for
a prototype (production representative) conformal antenna system for
use during follow-on developmental and operational testing on F/A-18
aircraft. NAVAIR intends to negotiate this order with McDonnell Douglas
Aerospace, the designer, developer, and sole manufacturer of the F/A-18
aircraft, and as such, the only firm possessing the technical knowledge
and expertise, facilities, and unique aircraft data bases necessary to
perform the effort within the required timeframe. This synopsis is for
