In support of the NASCOM Internetworking Lab Environment (NILE), NASA/GSFC intends to enter into a sole source purchase order to Fore Systems of Bethesda, MD for the acquisition of two (2) ATM switches and technical support. Request For Quotation RFQ5-40646/985 will be issued as the vehicle to obtain the switches. This acquisition will be done pursuant to U.S.C. 2304(c)(1)--only one responsible source. The switches being acquired allow the existing switches to be expanded from two nodes to four nodes. Fore Systems' switches run a proprietary switching protocol which precludes another vendor from providing a compatible protocol.
