B -- C14 AGE DETERMINATION POC Contact Juliet Harris, Supervisory Purchasing Agent, (415) 329-4171 The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Menlo Park, California, intends to place a firm-fixed price order with Krueger Enterprises, Inc of Cambridge MA for 140 C-14 Age Determinations. This is a sole source procurement based on best value to the Government. The specifications for the determinations are as follows; Laboratory doing work must have considerable experience in making radiocarbon assays of fossil plant material and academic interest in verification of standards and pretreatment practices. Laboratory must have capability to date less than 0.5g samples using liquid scintillation techniques and 0.0001g samples using accelerator mass spectrometer (AMS) dating. Results must be reported in radiocarbon years at on sigma; also delta-c13 measurements must accompany each date at no extra cost. laboratory must interact with researcher to discuss sample size and quality, as well as corrections of preliminary data. If researcher suspects that a problem with 14c date, laboratory must be willing to redate the sample. If there is a significant discrepancy between original date and redate, laboratory must assume the cost of the second sample date. Guaranteed results within 60 days for conventional (liquid scintillation dates; 90 days for AMS dating. This procurement will be reserved for small business concerns only. If a small business is not found to be in the be value of the Government a large business will be selected. All responsible responses from responsible source will be fully considered. Responses to this notice are required to be submitted within 15 calendar days of publications in the CBD. Interested sources are requested to submit pricing data. As a result of analyzing responses to this synopsis of intent, the Contracting Officer may determine that a solicitation will be issued. If a solicitation is issued, no additional synopsis will be published. Any such solicitation will be issued to the intended schedule vendor and all firms that respond to this synopsis of intent or otherwise request a copy of the solicitation. See Note 22 (0251)
