The mission of the Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion (CNPP) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture is to improve the nutritional health of Americans by linking scientific research to the consumer. In order to achieve this mission, the CNPP carries out activities that include Nutrition Promotion. To be effective, a nutrition promotion program must have a thorough understanding of the consumer's current behavior and the dietary patterns that must be changed to produce improved nutritional status. Timely and comprehensive market research data that links the consumer's nutritional knowledge, attitudes and self reported behaviors to actual food intakes is essential for this purpose. The CNPP intends to award a contract to MRCA Information Services for the creation and delivery of a comprehensive nutrition database integrating MRCA's Menu Census (Food Intakes by all members of surveyed households 18 years and older, for 14 days), Nutrient Intake System (Nutrient Intakes for same) and Nutrition and Food Attitude Inventory (for same households/members participating in the Nutrition and Food Attitude Inventory). The merged database sample shall consist of adult males and females 18 years and older for 2 yearly surveys (1993/94 and 1994/95, approximately 2,300 individuals per year) with each year's sample being representative of the adult U.S. population. More specifically, the integrated data sets will contain detailed information on the following broad categories: Demographics, Health and Diet Status, Food and Nutrient Intake, Daily Diet Practices, Nutrition Information, Diet Orientation, Perceived Healthy Foods, Food Consumption, Media Sources of Nutrition Information.
