Engine Manufacturer - Sources sought by the USDOT/Maritime
Administration. The Government is seeking responsible sources to
furnish ideas for an engine package to repower a research-type vessel,
the Ex-USNS TANNER being considered for the Maine Maritime Academy
training ship, from its original horsepower (25,000 BHP) and speed of
20 knots to a cruising range of 14 to 16 knots. The propulsion package
shall consist of new or rebuilt engines that could utilize the
existing reduction gear shafting and five bladed skewed fixed
propeller, or modify components to suit, alternate propulsion systems
such as diesel electric shall also be considered. This sources sought
synopsis for planning purposes shall not be interpreted as a
solicitation of offers or an indication that the Government will
procure the services. No contract award will be made on the basis of
responses received. No telephone requests will be accepted. Responsible
sources/interested parties may submit a brief synopsis of their
capabilities and request additional information via facsimile by
9/28/95. Responses to this request are due by 10/15/95. Follow-up
