COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF september 15,1995 PSA#1432MIXING DEVICE FOR MANUFACTURING LIQUID AIR POC Kathleen Harer, DE-TPO,
407-867-2780, Kennedy Space Center, FL 32899. The NASA Kennedy Space
Center (KSC) is interested in working with an industry partner(s) to
develop a device and associated equipment to manufacture liquid air by
mixing liquid nitrogen and liquid oxygen for filling backpack
respirators. Design and testing of a prototype mixing device have been
accomplished at KSC, although a final design for manufacturing will
need to be completed by the commercial partner selected for this
project under a joint funding arrangement. A contract has been let for
development of an updated liquid airpack that will meet all regulatory
safety requirements and will be used for hazardous operations at KSC.
They will replace airpacks that have been used at KSC for a number of
years. The mixing device and associated filling equipment will be
attached to an intermediate dewar from which the mixture is sampled and
used to fill the new airpack with liquid air. The mixing device could
also be used to mix liquid air to fill any other liquid airpack designs
that might be developed in the future. A technical briefing will be
scheduled for early November. Companies interested in attending the
briefing or receiving information on the project should contact Dan
Winfield, Research Triangle Institute, at 919-541-6431 or by email at
winfield@rti.org. For information on the dual use program, please
contact Kathleen Harer at 407-867-2780. Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0551 19950914\SP-0002.MSC)
