The Department of Energy invites small businesses (500 employees or
less) to submit grant applications in response to its third annual STTR
program solicitation to be issued on October 2, 1995. It is a 3-year
pilot program for firms with strong research capabilities in science or
engineering, in collaboration with non-profit research institutions,
such as universities and national laboratories. A copy of the
solicitation may be obtained by writing to the STTR Program Manager,

20874, or by telephoning (301) 903-5707. The program solicitation is
for the following technical topics: (1) Remote Sensing Using Low Cost
Airborne Spectral Imaging Systems, (2) Analytic and Control Software
for Fossil Energy Applications, (3) In-Situ Bioremediation of Metals
and Dense Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids, (4) Hybrid Electric Vehicle
Technology, (5) Fusion Technology, (6) Biotechnology: Resources and
Applications, (7) Specialized Component Research and Development for
High Energy Accelerators, (8) Technology in Support of Nuclear Physics
Research, (9) Electrolytes for Batteries and Fuel Cells, and (10)
Environmentally Benign Manufacturing. Successful applicants
(approximately 15) may receive up to $100,000 for a grant period of
about nine months to develop the feasibility of the idea, with up to
$500,000 available in a second phase for those ideas with the highest
potential to meet the STTR program objecties. The closing date for this
