Dick, 617/495-7401, FAX 617/496-7692 Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) requires one optical table with 4.8 mm thick INVAR facesheets and an aluminum honeycomb core. The bench is to be 0.46 meters thick, 3.66 meters long and 1.83 meters wide. The top facesheet is to have a regular pattern of 1/4-20 holes drilled on 25.4 mm centers. Mounting holes for attaching legs on the bottom facesheet are to be provided. The construction of the table should be completely symmetric to minimize thermal bowing. The table will be used to support components for a large optical spectrograph, with a total weight of 1500 kg.
