The Oil Pollution Prevention Technology Demonstration to be held at U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, October 26-28, 1995. Groton, CT -- The Oil Pollution Prevention Technology Demonstration, required by the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, will be held on the campus of The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, October 26-28, 1995, Commander Shawn Smith, U.S. Coast Guard R&D Center announced today. ``With the purpose to showcase recently developed innovative technologies to reduce the risk of acute and chronic oil discharges in port environments'' he added, ``we are inviting companies to submit by September 29, 1995, their technology presentation proposals which have been researched and developed since August 1990.'' Federal, State and local government officials, as well as research institutions, colleges and universities will participate and observe. At 10:00 a.m. each morning on-water demonstrations will be staged for up to 45 minutes showcasing oil spill prevention technologies ranging from improved designs for vessels, pipelines, methods to assess natural resource damages, to innovations in vessel traffic systems and bioremediation technology. Each technology presentation must include a brief demonstration, including dates the technology was researched, developed, and placed or may be placed into service; identification of topical areas related to the demonstration; type of demonstration (exhibit booth, outdoor static equipment display or on-water). The Interagency Subcommittee for Port Demonstration reserves the right of final selection of exhibits. While a one-time fee of $600 is required by the USMMA Continuing Education Department and must be received by October 15, 1995, the exhibits are open to the public at no admission fee.
