COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 27,1995 PSA#1440Los Alamos National Laboratory, Mail Stop D443, P.O. Box 1663, Los
Alamos, NM 87545 A -- HYDROTHERMAL TREATMENT FOR WASTEWATER AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Sol IPO-95-1017. Contact David Duchane, Program Manager, MS D443, Los
Alamos, NM 87545, TEL: (505)667-9893, FAX: (505)667-8487. The
University of California which operates the Los Alamos National
Laboratory (LANL) under contract to the Department of Energy (DOE), is
seeking an industrial partner(s) in the field of hydrothermal
processing. Ongoing research in the field of hydrothermal processing
has identified potential methods for energy recovery, corrosion
control, deposition prevention and inorganic separation that have
limited the commercial application of hydrothermal technologies such as
supercritical water oxidation. Environmental Energy Systems Inc.
(EESI), a New Mexico small business, has applicable patents and
expertise in energy recovery from high pressure hydrothermal processing
that require proof-of-principal testing. EESI intends to license
participants in an industry/state/federal collaboration, including the
Pueblo of Pojoaque as lead for The Pojoaque and Espanola Valleys Water
and Wastewater Steering Committee (Steering Committee). Members of the
Steering Committee have set goals for sustainable economic development
and providing clean water to their communities. The industrial
partner(s) 1) shall sponsor proof-of-principal testing for high
pressure hydrothermal treatment of wastewater and sludges that meets
current ``dual use'' criteria, including potential aqueous mixed waste
applications described in the LANL draft Site Treatment Plan, 2) shall
prepare a detailed design based on these tests and American Society of
Mechanical Engineers standards for a skid-mounted waste treatment unit
that can demonstrate minimum energy consumption, recovery of heavy
metals for recycle or disposal, and ``zero discharge'' or optional
recovery of clean water, and 3) shall establish a manufacturing
capability at Pojoaque. Any company wishing to receive more information
concerning this opportunity must respond with a statement of intent,
describing the company's technical expertise, production and marketing
capabilities, financial resources, previous technology transfer
experience, and motivation for participating in this project. This
statement must be dated within 30 days from the date of this notice.
