COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 28,1995 PSA#1441HSC/PKRC, 8005 9TH STREET, BROOKS AFB TX 78235-5353 A -- FEMALE AIRCREW MEMBER BLADDER RELIEF POC POC: Earline
Long-Zlotkowski, Contract Negotiator, (210)536-6250. 17. The United
States Air Force is requesting information concerning
non-developmental/ Off-The-Shelf (OTS) components for a Female Aircrew
Member Bladder Relief (FAMBRC) capability. Now that women are flying
combat aircraft, the need exists for a bladder relief system that can
be used by women. Currently there are two commercial off-the-shelf
products that can be used. Both of the devices are basically funnels
shaped to fit the female anatomy with tubing to allow usage with the
male ''piddle pack.'' FAMBRC requirements include collection of 1000 cc
of fluid with no spillage and being ejection seat compatible. Some
existing problems are comfort, compatibility with the exposure suit and
the chemical defense ensemble, leakage, a longer zipper needed in the
flightsuit, and practice for successful usage. The positive aspects are
they are reusable, small, and inexpensive, costing no more than $15
each. Devices desired, however, which are compatible with aircrew life
support equipment, functional in high performance aircraft
environments, and that fit in the aircrew helmet bag. The device also
needs to be more comfortable, require minimum practice to use, and have
reduced spillage. If the device is to be worn, it must be comfortable
during a 16 hour mission, and not cause any inflammation/irritation. To
be considered, the following information needs to be submitted: (1)
Description of components, including existing usage and application,
(2) Data verifying compatibility with female usage, to include material
compatibility with human usage, (3) Size and weight of components, (4)
Cost in lots of 10, 100, and 1000, (5) Support hardware, if required,
and cost in lots of 10, 100, and 1000, (6) Required maintenance, if
any, (7) Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) data, if available, including
any reliability data, and (8) Fire retardant/resistance of materials
used. Responses to this request should be received within 30 days from
date of publication in the Commerce Business Daily and can be sent via
E-mail to: boll%kirk.decnet@hsdd3.brooks.af.mil. Responses can also be
mailed to Ms Patricia Boll, Armstrong Laboratory, Crew Technology
Division, 2504 Gillingham Drive, Suite 25, Brooks Air Force Base, Texas
78235-5104, phone(210) 536-3464. This is not a request for
solicitations and any response to this RFI cannot be used by the
government to form a binding contract. (0269) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0002 19950927\A-0002.SOL)
