COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 29,1995 PSA#1442

Department of the Interior, U.S. Geological Survey, Office of Procurement and Contracts, Mail Stop 205B, Room 6A331, 12201 Sunrise Valley Drive, Reston, VA 22092

70 -- SOFTWARE/FIRMWARE POC Kimberly A. Kleeb (703) 648-7370 This is not a notice for a solicitation. This is a Request for Information (RFI). The Department of the Interior (DOI) requests technical information from the vendor community on commercially available methods of simplifying end user sign-on to various computer platforms. Two options are under consideration. The first option is a method that will permit DOI end users to sign-on for all platforms they need to access (i.e., Local Area Networks (LAN), mainframes, etc). The mainframes are all IBM-compatible with access controlled by various security products. The LANs are predominately Novell. Many of the servers are UNIX based. The second option is to provide the same user name for all mainframes that a user needs to access and to synchronize the password changes. DOI requests technical information, in as much detail as organizations are willing to provide, on methods which will assist us in implementing and managing either or both of these options. Any commercially available pricing information is also requested. Any pricing information submitted that contains restrictions on its disclosure will be returned to the vendor. This request is not a formal RFP and NO contract will result from this synopsis. Any subsequent solicitation will be synopsized prior to its release. All responses should contain sufficient technical documentation and descriptive literature to sufficiently describe capabilities. The Government will not pay for information provided in response to this synopsis. Technical and price information responding to this request should be received by COB on October 30, 1995. (0270)
