The quality certification team of the Chemical and Biological Defense Command (CBDCOM) will sponsor and unclassified symposium on ``ISO 9000 and contractor performance certification program (CP2)'' on October 31, 1995 from 0800 to 1700 hours at Edgewood area conference Center, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. The symposium offers an opportunity for Government and industry to exchange information on the new quality and management initiatives from offices at the Department of Defense, Department of the Army, Army Materiel Command, and U.S. Army CBDCOM. The Department of Defense is going through some exceptional changes due to budget cuts and rightsizing, and is being reengineered at every level. CBDCOM continues to be at the forefront and proactive in realizing these new methods of doing business. The speakers, from CBDCOM and other headquarters, will offer near and long term advice on dealing with this rapidly changing atmosphere. Attendees will be introduced to the contractor performance certification program (CP2), which recognizes and benefits contractors who adapt to this new order and consistently deliver quality products, control processes, and demonstrate aggressive continuous improvement efforts. Another major part of this program is the elimination of Military specifications and standards and the allowance of a wide latitude of Independence to contractors to make decisions. The use of Commercial quality standards, and the ISO 9000 quality management system inparticular, has been endorsed by the secretary of defense. There will be speakers, industry experts and consultants, to explain ISO 9000 implementation and the registration process.
