The United States Penitentiary in Lewisburg, Pa., intends to make a sole source award to Motorola Inc., for associated equipment to a Motorola Radio Trunking System. The equipment must be completely compatible with already acquired Motorola equipment. The contracting officer is currently seeking required approvals for this sole source procurement. The statutory authority permitting other than full and open competition is 41 U.S.C. 53 (C)(1). The exception which permits use of the cited statutory authority is stated at FAR 6.302-1, ``only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements''.
