46 -- SHIPBOARD POLISHING SYSTEMS POC Stephen Hopko (215) 897-1539. Oil Removing Polishing Systems and Technologies used for Secondary Treatment of Bilge Water Processed by Gravity-Based Oil/Water Separator Systems. Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, (NSWCCD) is conducting a market survey to determine what systems and technologies (i.e. adsorbents/absorbents, oleophilic polymers, electrocoagulation, bioremediation, etc) exist that can polish or further reduce the oil concentration in the bilge water effluent of existing shipboard oil/water separators. These separators include gravity-based, parallel plate units that operate at 10, 50 and 100 gpm. The polishing system must be compact for shipboard installation and be able to manage an influent that contains up to 100 ppm oil and 100 ppm detergent in the presence of solids. The polisher must also be able to manage emulsions and oil droplet sizes ranging from 1 to 20 microns in diameter. The effluent of the polisher must be be less that 15 ppm oil-in-water. All interested suppliers are invited to provide product literature for review and document their experience in this field. The literature should fully describe the produce and address its compatibility with existing parallel plate oil/water separators. Potential contractors are requested to provide the following: a) processing rates relative to equipment size, b) size, weight and cost of consumables, if any, c) required services (e.g. electrical power, ventilation, etc.), d) availability, e) current industry and government facilities and points of contact, f) required maintenance, g) effluent quality, h) ability to process detergents and oil/water emulsions, i) cost information, and j) disposal requirements. This is not a Request for Procurement (RFP) and may not result in a future contract. All interested parties should respond by 30 November 1995 with a general interst statement and background to: Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, Code 631, 2nd Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19112-5083, Att: Stephen J Hopko (0292)
