COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF OCTOBER 23,1995 PSA#1457NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center, Code 216, Greenbelt, MD 20771 A -- NATIONAL SPACE SCIENCE DATA CENTER SUPPORT--INCREASE IN SCOPE SOL
RFP5-12494/218 POC Steven T. Kramer, Contracting Officer, (301)
286-6687. NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center intends to issue a Request
for Proposal (RFP)5-12494/218 on a sole source basis to Hughes STX
Corporation for an increase in scope to Contract NAS5-30960. The
contractor provides services in support of the operations of the
National Space Science Data Center (NSSDC) which is responsible for the
acquisition, ingestion, management, and dissemination of NASA mission
data and related information. The contractor is responsible for
developing, maintaining, evolving, and operating sophisticated
computer, data, and information systems. A competitive follow-on effort
is anticipated but is currently delayed while GSFC reviews the
acquisition strategy for NSSDC. In the meantime, it is imperative that
a continuation of service is provided to maintain the management and
accessibility of NASA data which is needed by both NASA funded space
scientists and the general public. The contractor has provided a mix of
computer science, physical science, and data operations personnel to
NSSDC over the past five years. This experience and knowledge is
essential to support NSSDC until a follow-on award. Pursuant to 10
U.S.C. 2304(c)(1), Only One Responsible Source, NASA/GSFC intends to
issue a sole source, increase in scope, RFP to Hughes STX Corporation
to extend Contract NAS5-30960 14 months from the current end date of
November 30, 1995. All responsible sources desiring consideration are
requested to fully identify interest and capabilities within fifteen
(15) days of the date of publication of this synopsis to the GSFC
office and individual noted above. See Number Note 22. (0292) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0006 19951020\A-0006.SOL)
