study will provide a description of families served by Head Start, by
(1) describing characteristics of the families of approxmiately 3500
children enrolled in a nationally representative sample of
approximately 40 Head Start programs, through interviews with parents
at program entry, exit, and kindergarten follow-up regarding their
family demographics, concerns, initial expectations, and subsequent
satisfaction with the Head Start program; and (2) describing the Head
Start programs' services to families and barriers to the provision of
family services through interviews with appropriate Head Start
personnel (i.e., Family Services Coordinator, Parent Involvement
Coordinator, Program Director). This descriptive study will take place
in three contiguous phases of 8 months, 12 months, and 12 months, for
a total of thirty-two (32) months. An embedded in-depth study of a
selected subsample of families will also be carried out. Interested
