Charleston Air Force Base, SC intends to enter into negotiations for a sole source award to Trimble Avionics of Austin, TX. The award will be for certified portable global positioning systems for the purpose of conducting precision navigation in non-permissable environments and for L1/L2 antenna for use with this system. C-141 special operations requires a portable ``snap on, snap off'' GPS unit that is aviation certified and can provide course guidance to the crew. The control head must also be night vision goggle compatible. Department of Defense regulations require the unit be P(Y) coded. P(Y) coded GPS's have military application only. P(Y) coded GPS's, aviation certified that are not integrated into the aircraft systems are not a common product. Estimated cost is between $100,000.00 and $500,000.00.
