COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF OCTOBER 31,1995 PSA#1463USDA, Office of Operations, Room 1547-South Building, 14th &
Independence Ave., SW, Washington, DC 20250 70 -- JES2 UTILITY SOFTWARE POC Contact Point, Beverly Brown,
(202)720-8614 The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Office of
Information Resources Management (OIRM), National Computer Center (NCC)
seeks the following information about commercial, off-the-shelf,
software: (1) availability; (2) field proven; (3) functionality; (4)
performance; and (5) price. NCC's hardware includes IBM ES/9021 Model
820 CPUs, IBM 3990 L03 SCUs, IBM 3390 A38 and B3C DASD, and IBM/STK
3480 magnetic cartridge subsystems. NCC's software includes ACF2,
JESMaster, JES2, MVS/ESA 4.3, etc. NCC's interest is directed toward
automated tools supporting management and operation of the JES2 spool.
NCC seeks to collect and use information concerning the contents and
use of the spool. NCC wishes to reduce JES2 spool DASD capacity by
shifting JES2 data to ''non-JES2 spool'' storage (magnetic cartridge
and DASD). Specific functionality needed: (1) Utility software that
monitors JES2 spool capacity, contents and use, generating detail data
that can be processed by other software tools (SAS, for example) and
formatted reports for management and technical personnel. Data of
particular interest: account number; condition codes; destination;
execution date and time; job class; job name; job number; message
class; output date and time; output disposition; output lines and
pages; special forms; etc.; (2) Utility software to archive JES2 spool
data to DASD and magnetic cartridge storage media, purge JES2 spool
data, and to recover archived data to the JES2 spool in its original
condition. JES2 spool data access must be controlled by ACF2 or
external security control. Global and individual archive and recovery
operations are needed; (3) Archival, data collection, purge and
recovery functions should be based upon NCC-specified criteria for
selection applied to the data elements specified in item (1) above; (4)
Utility software to support batch and interactive (TSO) access to
archived JES2 spool data. Access to JES2 spool data must be controlled
by ACF2 or external security control; and (5) Current commercial
and/or government prices for software licenses, maintenance, and
technical support. The NCC requests one (1) copy of all documentation,
both marketing and technial, for utility software that addresses
functionality; a point of contact for seeking additional technical
information; a point of contact at a comparable installation where the
utility software is installed, maintained (a federal government
organization is preferred), and in operation; a brief summary of the
utility software's capability addressing the four (4) areas previously
identified; and pricing data for commercial and government
organization. This is a request for information. It is not a request
for comment or a request for proposals. No solicitation exists.
Information to be considered must be received by November 1, 1995. The
Government will not pay for any information submitted in response to
this request for information. Any information submitted will become the
property of the Government and will not be returned. Parties who reply
will be placed upon a mailing list of interested parties should the
Government decide to go on with a request for comment or a request for
proposals. Written responses are to be directed to Ronald C. Brewer;
Capacity and Performance Management Staff; National Computer Center;
Post Office Box 419205; Kansas City, Missouri 64141-6205. Telephone
inquiries will not be accepted. (0300) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0258 19951030\70-0006.SOL)
