(703)602-7904. The Naval Sea Systems Command intends to solicit for the
design and development of a five inch (5'') Extended Range Guided
Munition (ERGM) Projectile, EX 171 MOD O. The ERGM will deliver a 32
lb. submunition dispensing warhead to extended ranges with increased
accuracy over current 5'' ammunition. The conceptual baseline design
consists of five major subassemblies including: rocket motor and tail
fin assembly, submunition warhead, guidance and navigation section,
control section, and airframe structure. Guidance and navigation would
be provided using a Global Positioning System/Inertial Navigation
System coupled system providing both midcourse and terminal guidance to
obtain the required Circular Error Probable. The selected source would
be required to deliver (70) engineering development models (EDMs) in
FY 98, along with a product level development package. These EDMs will
be used by the Government to conduct land and sea based testing. The
development contract shall include a phased pricing option for up to
five hundred (500) production units, with deliveries scheduled for FY
00. A performance specification and authorization to obtain GPS
security devices shall be provided as Government Furnished Information
(GFI). This acquisition shall be limited to U.S. Prime Contractors
because a portion of the GFI related to the GPS subsystem is classified
NOFORN operation and tactical information. This acquisition shall
require that the selected source possess a SECRET Facility Clearance
