COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF NOVEMBER 1,1995 PSA#1464US Department of Energy, Albuquerque Operations Office, Contracts and
Procurement Division, P.O. Box 5400, Albuquerque, NM 87185-5400 C -- ACCELERATOR PRODUCTION OF TRITIUM (APT) PROJECT POC Eusebio M.
Espinosa, Contracting Officer, (505) 845-5809. The U.S. Department of
Energy, Albuquerque Operations Office (DOE-AL) is seeking potential
sources for broad spectrum engineering, management, and technical
services in support of an accelerator and associated facilities
necessary for tritium production. A Programmatic Environmental Impact
Statement for Tritium Supply and Recycling, dated February 1995, is
available in the Source Evaluation Board (SEB) Libraries. The Record of
Decision is planned to occur in November 1995. The Secretary of Energy
has announced on October 10, 1995, a preferred alternative with the
Accelerator Production of Tritium (APT) as one part of a dual path
strategy. This project involves accelerator engineering development,
design, construction, and commissioning of a high energy linear proton
accelerator system to produce tritium by 2011. A multi-laboratory team
(Los Alamos, Brookhaven, Lawrence Livermore, and Sandia) has completed
the preconceptual design. This design has been documented in a series
of Topical Reports that are available in the SEB Libraries. The SEB
Libraries are located at the National Atomic Museum, Albuquerque, New
Mexico, and at the DOE Headquarters Forrestal Building in Washington,
DC. Additionally, information is available via the Internet on the
DOE-AL HomePage HTTP:\\WWW.DOEAL.GOV. The DOE-AL plans to release a
Draft Request for Proposal (RFP) for industry comment and then a Final
RFP after the first of the calendar year. A Technical Briefing and
site visits related to the APT Project is planned prior to the release
of the Final RFP and a Registration will be announced on Internet.
Interested parties are advised to review the DOE-AL HomePage for
further notices prior to the Draft RFP announcement. This synopsis is
for information and planning purposes only, does not constitute a
