A -- REQUEST FOR INFORMATION FROM COMMERCIAL SOURCES FOR DOPPLER WEATHER RADAR POC Pauline S. French, Contracts Specialist, 617-377-7387; Stephen N. Meehan, Contracting Officer, 617-377-7391. Electronic System Center (ESC) Weather Systems Program Office (ESC/AVW) is conducting a survey of commercially available off-the-shelf (COTS) Doppler weather radars to support the potential procurement of a quantity of Tactical Weather Radars (TWR) to meet Air Force requirements. No requirements that will generate the need for new development are anticipated. The TWR program will provide enhanced severe weather radar detection capabilities to support weather forecasts to Combat Air Force (CAF) and Echelons Above Corps (EAC) Army forces world wide. Specific performance characteristics of interest include but are not limited to Doppler radar systems that can: operate in a wide range of environmental conditions, observe and track, thunderstorms (both horizontal/vertical structures), all types of precipitation, and wind velocities/direction, be capable of detecting low level wind shears, operate within a tunable frequency range, and operate as a stand-alone system with dial-up functional capabilities. Software should meet open systems environment requirements, be Windows compatible, and capable of being imported by common graphics application software. The system should also be capable of being controlled from a remote workstation that also displays radar detection and diagnostics data. Typical employment scenarios includes both fixed base within the continental United States/overseas and deployments to open field (Bare-Base) locations. Two-man portable modular systems are of particular interest due to critical mobility requirements. Other performance characteristics of interest include the ability of the system to operate in a nuclear, chemical, and/or biological type environment(s). If any products of potential interest are currently available on a Government contract please provide pertinent information including the appropriate company and Government points of contact. If your company has an Internet Home Page, please provide address. Responses are requested not later than 30 days after the publication date of this synopsis. Commercial brochures and tehnical information may be submitted in hardcopy or via electronic media to: Lt Dale J. Flick, ESC/AVW, 20 Schilling Circle, Hanscom AFB MA 01731-2826, (617) 377-6442 (FlickD@Radium-VS1.af.mil ). Firms should indicate whether they are small or small disadvantaged or woman owned businesses. This synopsis is for planning purposes only and does not constitute a commitment on the part of the Government to purchase TWR systems. (0304)
