Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division has a requirement
for the modification of Device 14A12(J). The Device 14A12(J) is an ASW
trainer located in Yokosuka, Japan. The trainer provides team training
of ASW procedures and tactics in various non-tactical data system
equipped Japanese ships, Ownship Aircraft, weapon systems and sensors.
The current ship classes include DD, DDG, FFG, CG, CGN, WHEC, and
WMEC. The Ownship Aircraft that are simulated include the SH-2F and
SH-60B; while the Assist Aircraft include the SH-3H, P-3C and S-3A. The
training is conducted as a single ship in a simulated multi-threat
environment from mockups which are representative of Sonar, CIC,
Bridge, and Ownship Aircraft. The U.S. Government has been tasked by
the Government of Japan through an FMS case with the responsibility of
implementing functional software (that is based upon FORTRAN 77),
changes to the current system. The changes are primarily to the Sonar
and weapons systems to improve the overall system training capability.
