COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF NOVEMBER 7,1995 PSA#1468

BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH EDI WITH DOD SEMINAR POC Stephen Cluney, (908) 532-1403, or Lewis Fisher, (908) 532-8375 CECOM, C4IEW Acquisition EDI Representatives. BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH EDI with DOD seminar. Presented by the Scranton Electronic Commerce Center. Sponsored by C4IEW Acquisition Center, Fort Monmouth, New Jersey 07703-5008, November 28 and 29, 1995, Location Ramada Inn, 109 State Highway 36, West Long Branch, NJ 07764, (908) 229-9000. CECOM along with other federal buying offices is implementing Electronic Commerce/Electronic Data Interchange (EC/EDI) in its Base Support Branch. EC/EDI with its electronic purchasing procedures will save Government buying activities and you time and money. It will reduce processing time, minimize errors and save dollars. EC/EDI will make our acquisition activity and our trading partners more competitive in our rapidly changing global environment. To enter the EC/EDI acquisition arena, we need to exchange business documents electronically. The EC/EDI technology will facilitate the exchange of these documents in a standard format. It will allow us to broaden our competitive base and allow you, our trading partners, the ability to access Government solicitations not only from CECOM but also federal buying activities throughout the United States. You will submit quotations, and receive purchase and delivery order awards at your desk. EC/EDI will enable businesses to better compete in a global market. CECOM will begin the transition to Electronic Commerce in phases. The first phase will consist of non-complex, off-the-shelf type commodities. Service type contracts will be solicited and awarded in phase two. To complete the process, our more complex type procurements will follow. Initially the implementation of EDI at CECOM will apply to Base Operation Support procurements only. Presently, the electronic vehicle to procure Mission Support commodities is being developed. CECOM procurement personnel remain committed to you, our vendor community, and will continue to keep you informed of developments in this time of rapid change. Knowledgeable presenters from the University of Scranton's ECRC will be here at CECOM to present seminar sessions on ``Business Opportunities with DOD through EDI.'' It is vitally important for you to be aware of these changes that are taking place in the acquisition community. You are cordially invited to attend one of these seminars. The sessions have been scheduled for November 28 and 29, the cost is $15.00 per person and should be remitted to the Scranton ECRC. Questions related to this seminar should be directed to Joe Umbriac at the Scranton ECRC 1-800-575-3272.
