JPL GOES TO WASHINGTON POC Lamont Hames, tel: 202/358-2088. NASA will host an Open House for small businesses interested in doing business with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). JPL is NASA's lead center for deep space automated exploratory research. Located in Pasadena, CA JPL has an annual budget of over $1 billion dollars. JPL is an operating arm of the California Institute of Technology (Cal Tech). Cal Tech has been the prime contractor managing the laboratory since its inception. JPL is committed to doing business with the small business community and seeks to expand its supplier base for present and future technical requirements. The purpose of this program is to introduce high-tech small and minority businesses that are interested in doing business with JPL but may lack resources to market the Lab or attend its annual high-tech conference. Special emphasis will be placed on identifying high-tech firms that are socio-economically disadvantaged or woman-owned. Further emphasis will be placed on firms that have not obtained a NASA/JPL contract or have limited NASA/JPL experience. This is necessary so that NASA/JPL can further (1) identify capable high-tech firms to increase the pool from which we can draw, and (2) adhere to the Memorandum of Understanding between NASA and the Small Business Administration to do business with 8(a) firms who have not yet obtained a Government contract.
